I’ve been wanting to share with you mine and Taylor’s story forever. I get questions about how we met all the time so I’m so happy to finally be able to write this! We’ve been married 3 years as of October 17th, 2017.
The first time I saw Tay we were both 14 years old. I had just moved to a new city (Highland, UT) and he was a member of my new ward (church congregation). It was June 3rd, 2007. We were having class out on the grass under a tree and I remember thinking how tall he was as he walked over and sat down – he’s 6’5″! For some reason I have such a vivid picture in my mind of that first day we met. His eyes looked so blue. He remembers it so well too and can tell you exactly what I was wearing. He was SOOOO HANDSOME.
We had a crushes on each other forever. He would “accidentally” bump into me in the halls at our junior high school lol. We were such kids. We would talk on the phone for hours every night.
We had our first kiss the month after I turned 16. He was my first kiss! It was October 17, 2009 and he was so nervous and adorable. He ‘officially’ asked me to be his girlfriend the next day – he got down on one knee and everything! Such a cutie.
We dated all through high school. We were best friends and practically inseparable (except when we would have a little tiff and break up for a day and then get back together the next day by saying “hey do you wanna go to taco bell” lol WE WERE SO DUMB). We really started to love each other, which is weird because we were so young and we totally DO NOT believe in high school relationships. But we loved each other and he was there for me through a lot of difficult times. He was the best high school sweetheart.
After high school, I started college at BYU and he prepared to serve as a missionary for our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to serve in Perth, Australia. His mission would last for 2 years, and I was so nervous for him to leave because I wouldn’t be able to see him or talk to him (except by email) for the length of that time. The night before he left, we stood out on his front porch clasping hands, me promising I would wait for him and I would write him every week. Looking back it seems dramatic but let me tell ya it FELT dramatic lol.
So he left, and I waited for him. He had an incredible experience teaching about Jesus Christ in Perth. About 7 months into his mission, the option suddenly became available for me to serve a mission as well. My religious beliefs have always been an important part of who I am, and I was so excited to have the opportunity to share the gospel with others. I was incredibly shocked – as was my family, his family, and everyone that knew us – that I received my call to the same mission, Perth Australia. Any LDS member will appreciate how unlikely that is!
It was an incredible experience to serve alongside Taylor in the Australia Perth Mission and to see him as a missionary, devoting all his time to serving others and God. We put our relationship completely to the side during that time. After we returned home, we picked up right where we left off. He proposed to me on July 12, and we were married for time and all eternity on October 17, 2014 – exactly 6 years from the day of our first kiss.
Looking back it’s just so crazy how perfectly everything worked out. We’ve been really blessed. I couldn’t ask for a better husband and best friend to do life with. Like I cannot explain adequately HOW AMAZING OF A HUSBAND HE IS. Don’t ask me how I got so lucky cuz I don’t know!!
